The Gruffalo

For our current Power of Reading theme in Reception we have been looking at the story 'The Gruffalo.'

The children have become really engaged with the text throughout the last 4 weeks and have enjoyed a lot of discussions and activities.

We have been involved in many activities relating to retelling the story, acting it out, making story maps and exploring the different characters.

There has been a lot of creativity explored including the effects of pastel and paint, drawing woodland scenes, making gruffalo caves's, hats and puppets.

It has really inspired the children in writing, including labelling, gruffalo hunts, writing speech bubbles around the different characters and writing letters to the gruffalo and it's child.

We have explored many aspects of the wider world including talking about different habitats and animals, exploring autumn and listening to woodland soundscapes.

The children have also engaged in a wider variety of relating books including, 'Where the wild things are,' 'Stanley's Stick,' 'Brave Bear' and 'The Gruffalo's Child.'
