For our power of reading we have looking at the book 'Stanley's Stick.'
We started off by looking at the first page in the book, looking at what we noticed and started a class journal recording our observations. As we slowly read the book over 3 weeks the children had a lot of opportunity to use their imaginations as they discovered a stick could be anything they wanted it to be.
We discussed descriptive vocabulary around the stick and the different feelings that occured in the book. The children were able to predict what might happen next as well as reflect on what had happened. We learnt about poetry and how to write our own poems and discussed stick safety. The children had a go at drawing sticks and making their own stick men.
