Year 3's Amazing Maths
We have been learning that it is really important to learn maths in a visual way using equipment.
Year 3 use the following process to help us learn maths:
Make it - Draw it - Write the calculation - Explain it.
In the photos we were learning how to divide 2 digit numbers (such as 36, 28, 42) by a 1 digit number.
We investigated using a variety of different equipment to help deepen our understanding of the processes of division. Next we drew the sum as a visual representation of the equipment we had been using. Then we wrote the sums out as calculations using formal written methods. As a final challenge we had to explain our work to others. Verbally having to explain calculations can also help children to deepen and explore their own understanding.
